This project provided a new house on an infill site in Athlone Co. Westmeath. This timber framed house optimises the site's orientation to provide passive solar gain to minimise heating costs. To the front north elevation, small windows are used to minimise heat loss while to the rear south elevation larger glazed areas maximise the passive solar heat gain and views to the garden. Clear storey glazing over the stairwell floods the circulation areas with natural light. Externally the house is clad in cedar sheeting at first floor level, cantilevered over a brick and render ground floor.
