Housing at Poppintree 12 Ballymun

As part of the overall regeneration of the Ballymun area, Flanagan Architects were requested to provide a design for an infill site in the suburban neighbourhood of Poppintree. The site was an underused green area between two existing housing estates. The design proposed a new link road through the site, providing greater connection between the existing estates in the area. Because of the width of the site, a single sided development was proposed screening the rear gardens of the existing houses and thus providing greater security. A terrace of mainly two storey houses is provided punctuated by 3-storey houses where vertical and horizontal steps occur in the terrace. At each end of this terrace, own door apartments wrap around and bookend the terrace, ensuring continuity of the elevation and supervision of the public areas.
This project was carried out in conjunction with Fitz.gerald and Associates Architects, and provided 20 dwellings comprising 2-bedroom apartments, and two and three storey 3-bedroom houses.
